Ride 4 Kids Bike Bash Oct 09

Beautiful sunshine for the bike bash. Bit of a dust storm but that didn't stop our bikes making there way from Caboulture to Bell for lunch then thru to dalby for stop over and then on to Leyburn the next day to watch the grand final at Shane Webke's Pub.

Wow has been a long time since i wrote in here.
The car is just about finished, Dano (Joys son ) is just doing the final finishes. A BIG THANK YOU to DANO and IILAEUS (electrician) for spending so much time on it.

We will be driving to townsville- townsville to Alice Springs - our bash car is being brought back to brisbane by truck thanks to Toll. And we will fly back.
Virgin Bash is 18-19 July so we are looking forward to that.
Helen is off to America on Fri so i hope she has a great time.

We have still got about $2000.00 to raise so are still fundraising hard and seeking sponsors.

Valentines Day- Mini Bash

The 14th and 15th of Feb took us on a mini bash organised by Mal from car 50/50
and what a great weekend we had. From Stafford to Warwick then to Plainlands on Sunday.
It was a good time to test out our car and she went good.
We had a back Holden ornament for a bit when the Paddy Wagon car 54 driven by Ian Marshall (which he's sending a cheque in the mail )at the time decided to smash into us. Luckily no one was hurt except Ian's pride. We stayed at the pub in Warwick. There were 40 cars and about 120 people so great turn out. Did a bit of karaoke and dancing.
Now we have to get stuck into raising some money for those kids so

We are back and we have had the time of our lives.I know I said I would try and update blog on the bash but I was unable to. We have seen some very touching moments, some very funny moments and meet some great people along the way. This bash is all about raising funds for children. This year we raised 1.9 million dollars that is the most they have ever raised in a year. There were 240 cars in the bash this year and about 600 people. The journey from Towoomba to Bathurst took us 9 days driving about 400-500 klm per day. We camped every night except the Friday night at parkes, it was good to have a hot shower and sleep in a bed for one night.It hasn’t been a holiday for us we were up every mourning at 5- 5.30 packing up camp having breakfast and heading of most days by 7.30 and we got to most camps by 5 setting up going to diner. They would have a meeting and go over the day’s events and what would be happening the next day. They would also have auctions most nights selling of lots of different things Day 1 Friday
After having breakfast on the rooftop of the shopping centre in toowoomba. The bash cars looked great and everyone was in costume. It was time to start your engines and start going. There was excitement in the car. We went thru all the creek crossing that be practiced on the virgin bash so this time we didn’t get stuck in any.
Our first visit was The Risk Public School, stopping and saying hello to the kids. Then we headed to Maroon state school for lunch where we were greeted by lots more kids.
Our overnight stop was at casino where we had a yummy diner, followed by some dancing. We camped at the Queen Elizabeth Park.

Day 2 Saturday
Today was many corners twisting and turning across tenterfield for lunch then to Dorrigo for overnight stop.Today is the day that will test your brakes. Well we certainly did that, we had some very steep mountains to climb and the valiant was struggling we overheating problem which left us on the road for about 1 hour to cool down. Then as we were about 10 mins to camp site we ran out of petrol, so we didn’t arrive till 7.30pm so setting up tent in dark was challenging

Day3 Sunday
Today is only a short trip today, Heading to Barraba. They will be closing the main street of for a massive street party and what a great night it was. We got to see the Buddy Holly Show which will be traveling Australia in 2009. We headed back to campsite where they were still partying on. It started raining and lots of our stuff got wet.

Day4 Monday
Firstly we pass through Boggabri where we stop and say hello to the kids. Then we head to Binnaway for lunch. Then we head to Mudgee where we stay at Racecourse track. It was freezing.

They have lots of fun stops on the way where you have to get out and play the games and if you don’t you get fined. There are also lots of bribes along the way thru check points, lots of fun.
They also have virgin swap navigators- which means you swap navigators and have to go in someone else’s car. I had the pleasure of going with mark and Russell who are from Cairns car #369 and Spiro went with the girls. It had been raining so we got too got thru all these mud tracks. Cars were sliding sideways some were bogged and had to get pulled out, and everyone was having fun.

Day5 Tuesday
Wow what a mourning after defrosting we have a steep and winding narrow road of the bridle track (the signs say 4 wheel drive only)
Then we go thru Bathurst. We were able to do the circuit which was fantastic.
Then we headed to Cowra which was Prison break theme night. We were freezing it was so cold there was ice on the windscreens of the bash cars.
We did another swap of navigator this time Joy got out and went with #2008 and David hopped in with us.
It is a great way of meeting new people and everyone is so helpful. They really are a great bunch of people.

Day7 Thursday
When we pulled up at Lake Cargelligo we picked a camp stop overlooking the lake it was beautiful. Barbie car was camped next to us and they had a portable shower, which we were quite willing to pay for. It was great to have a very quick hot shower.

Day8 Friday
Waking up on the lake was beautiful and down near the water the guys from Highlanders car were playing the bagpipes with the sun rising behind them. (we have been woken up with the bagpipes playing every mourning at 5am, and one mourning they started at 4.30am ,It was a lovely sound lying there listening to them in the distance until they got up close to your tent.) Today’s theme is Irish day so we had our green hair and hats on. Heading out to______-for lunch.
After lunch we swooped cars again, I got in with 2008 and Dick went with the girls. We were all kept very entertained with 2008 getting lost. Heading into parkes for our awards night we decided to get a hotel as we have been having cold showers most of the way. We had our awards night but we were all tired we didn’t stay very long.

Day9 Saturday
Leaving Parkes to head to Bathurst.
Only a short drive to Bathurst where we will set up camp next to the trackside. We had a great camp spot and short walk to the start/finish line. We had buses picking us up to take us to diner and we had Mental as Anything playing.

Day10 Sunday
Sunday mourning – The big race…
Went down to the track and watched the V8 utes followed by one of our Bash cars #990 who got to go round the track for raising the most money ( well over $100, 000 )
Then our top 10 cars got to do a lap as well.
Went down to the pitts and made our way to the variety tent where we had lunch put on.
Helen and I then went on the Helicopter, It was the best $70 I have spent what a thrill.
Went back to camp for a little catnap, then went and watched the last few laps.
A lot teams were packing up and leaving. The 3 blind mice girls did the diner rounds and we got KFC for diner. We all sat round the campfire talking.

On the way Home- Monday
Packing up and leaving was mixed emotions for some of us, wanting the bash to keep going and also wanting to go home. The 30-50 cars that were still there were all packing to make there way home.
Leaving Bathurst going through Mudgee-Coonabarabran- then stopping at Narrabri for lunch that the Baxter team put on. Then heading towards Goondiwindi, got someone to look at car, but all was fine.

Most memorable moment

Helen- Swimming in the back of the car (after going thru creek crossing the car filled up with water.
Boys pushing the clown mobil through the mud.
The tiger jumping on our bonet then jumping on me.

Joy- Sleeping in the toilets at Dorrigo (had to get out of the rain)
Getting a nice view of whats under the highlanders kilt after midnight.

Michelle- Sitting by the campfire having a few drinks with so many people

Karen- watching the clown throw mud on the xxxx car after they had just finished cleaning it.

Its finally here, We are all packed ready to go.
Today we are all meeting at Michelle's house at lunch time, then we are going up to Towoomba and we will be staying at Michelle's sisters house. ( Thanks Gayle) We have a meeting at 5.30 followed by a cocktail party.
Then at 7.30am Friday we start our journey.
I will try to update blog every day depends how much fun we're having.

I would just like to thank everyone who has helped us get this far.

Wow we have 5 days to go. We are so excited now and counting down.

We went to Pamona on Sat, we have been to Pamona a few times holding raffles and a big thanks to Jimmy and his family for helping us out.

Michelle will be taking car up to Towoomba for its final scrutineering on Monday.

Then we will be heading up to towoomba on thursday lunch time, we are staying at Michelle's sisters house.

Sunday was presentation day at the Mt Gravatt Soccer Club and we were there with the car and to thank James from Perfect Gind ( The Coffee man ) you might see him round rochdale area. For suppling us with all the salads from GMN Vegies and of course the best Coffee and Chai Tea Lattes ever. So thanks James and to everyone else at the Mt Gravatt Soccer Club for supporting us. We will see you all next year.

Virgin Bash Test Weekend

Ok first off i would just like to say a big thank-you to Will for getting the car done. We didn't think we were going to be able to go on this weekend bash because the car wasn't safe. So on Friday i went down to Byron bay and bought another car (EJ Holden another bash car that was all ready to go) just in case the valiant wasn't ready. But we got the phone call about 3pm Friday afternoon saying valiant was right to go. This is at 6am out front of Joys house loading up the car. We all meet at Beenliegh Mcdonalds then we set out along the back of Beaudesert valley thru to O'Rielly's. Stopped for morning tea, then we did some bush bashing turning left into Duck creek Rd-Bumpy-Bumpy-Lumpy-Large Bumps-Bumpy hairpin-Grid-Another bump just like the others. Select low gear-washout-more bumps.

Regroup we will be stopping for lunch at Kyogle. From there we will be off road so watch out for the bumps and grids.

Well we have made it we have raised $7000 and we are now officially entering the Bash. We are still hoping to raise more and will not stop there. So it is not to late to help out by sponsoring us or donating prizes for raffles.
The car is registered and we will be taking it to the roads very soon so look out for us.
We have a monster Garage sale at beenliegh on saturday address will be in the paper.
A big thank-you to all of those people who donated stuff and all proceeds will go to the variety club.
We only have a couple more sausage sizzles left at the soccer club then on the 30-31st of August we go on our Virgin Bash Weekend - for all first timers doing the bash we go from beenliegh to boonah to try the car out shall be great fun.

We will be up at Pomona Hotel again this weekend, they have there annual mountain climb so we will be up there helping Jimmy in the pub for awhile then doing some raffles and shakin our tins. So if you got nothin to do this weekend come climb the mountain and say Hi.

The boys are finishing of the Valiant this weekend. And If all goes well it will be getting registered next week. So we can start driving it. Whoo Hoo so exciting. Just over 2 months to go.

Paint job is now finished

Well Dimo has finished painting the Valiant. Now she is back up at Michelles house.

Dimo and Will have spent the whole weekend working on the car. Buffing and polishing the new paint job, making sure she runs right. We have got some new tyres and had the rims sandblasted.

We had another BBQ at the soccer club Sat night.

Whats Coming Up

26th-27th July up at Pomona Hotel where they have there annual mountain climb should be a big weekend.

3rd Aug we are hosting a crazy cricket day for our work colleges, families and friends.

16th Aug a monster garage sale at joys house.

30th Aug we go on a Virgin Bash- for new comers entering bash for a weekend of whats to come.

Still have juniour BBQ's every Sat through out July, August and mid September.

21st Sept at the Hot Rod Show - Beenliegh show grounds.

Then every weekend in September we will be at a different place with our car shaking our Tins. Will let you know where.

Well things here have been ab it slow. (sorry) I can excitedly say that the car is now at my house and Dimo is repainting it. He has spent all week on it panel beating and rubbing it down says it should be ready for paint by the weekend. ( will post some pics soon)
Joys son Daniel has the tailgate and is doing some welding on it so a big thank-you to Dano. Poor Dimo is on a weeks holiday and he has spent all that time doing the car so Thanks Dimo.
And not to mention a big Thank-you to Will ( Michelle's partner) for doing all the mechanical side of things.
Our thoughts go to Helen who's husband Bob was burnt badly 2 weeks ago and is still in a induced coma.
We are still doing our BBQ's at the Mt Gravatt Soccer Club, so feel free to come down and say Hi.
We are having a garage sale on the 16th of August and are asking for your help if you can donate stuff for us to sell and are able to drop it of a coorparoo (email me and i will email you the address) or if your not near there have a garage sale and donate some of the sales to us.
We will also be organising a cricket fun day and a thinking of you card fundraiser. So keep watching.
Oh our total so far is $5900, we are on track and very happy with what we have achieved so far.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

we sold 130 dozen doughnuts that's 1560 doughnuts. Wow that's great that's another 500-600 to the total. Will have to do a total check. Thanks to everyone who help out getting orders my neighbour Joanna who got 30 orders from her work, Brisbane private hospital and my partner Dimo who got 23 from his work. And to everyone else that got orders good work.

Another week over , they are going so fast. We were up at the soccer club yet again doing another BBQ. On the 21st may 1st State of Origin ( remember the one we lost). Busy Weekend

This week-end has been a very big one for Michelle and I we started about 8am Sat cooking breakfast bbq's at the Mt gravatt soccer club and went thru to lunch time. My mother Susan was there helping us as well. Then I came back at 3pm and continued cooking for the seniors bbq when it absolutely bucketed down, along with the help of my sister Jane and my mother Sue again.

Michelle went of to Suncorp stadium to sell programs for the Qld Reds along with my other sister Kim and my best friend Jay and her 2 kids Annalyse and Zacary.

Michelle and I then went back on sunday mid morning and started up the BBQ again for the women at the soccer club. Once again thank you to Noel for allowing us to do this and Debbie who works the canteen for all your help.

We would just like to thank you all for coming along and helping us. My family have been very supportive of me, and i thank you and love you all.

Another successful weekend doing our BBQ at the soccer club at Mt Gravatt.

We drew the raffle at the soccer club on Saturday night and the winners were

Congratulations to the winners and thank you every one who bought tickets.

We were asked to do the BBQ for the juniors as well so we will be very busy through out soccer season.

This Saturday very busy Weekend Helen turns 50 Happy Birthday Helen, and is having her party and Joy is in hospital having her operation on her shoulder. So i will be at the BBQ's with some help from my family and Michelle will be at Suncrorp Stadium selling the programs for the Qld REDS with some volunteering friends and family. So thank you to our family and friends for helping out.

Don a salesman at our work donated us some lipstick pallets ( make-up ) we have put some of these on ebay if you would like to have a look

Well it is finally time to annonce our first sponsor and it is the company we work for Toll Priority. They have given us $1000 which now bring our total to $4100. So we only have $3000 to go. So a big thank-you to Joanne Dixson and Steven Bell who made this happen.

Cookie dough drive

We have the cookie dough Drive again. Order due in by end of the month and Delivery is on the 9th may so stock up, with any luck we might be able to do another one in Aug/Sept.

If you haven't tried the cookie dough now is a good time, it is so easy to do, just put a spoonful on the tray and bake for 10 min its that easy.

Or just eat it uncooked on its own, great with ice-cream ( Americans love it )

Jason from our work bought one last time and has finished it and his didn't even make it to the OVEN....

1st Sausage Sizzle

We have just had our 1st Sausage Sizzle and yes it rained.

But we had a great time. We were up at the Mt Gravatt Soccer Club and Joy was cooking up a storm. The rain kept alot of people away, so hopefully the crowds are bigger next time. Yes there will be a next time infact we are doing the whole soccer season.

We would like to thank Noel for getting it all together for us, Debbie who runs the canteen/ bar. And to James the coffee man who supplied us with the salads for the BBQ. And thanks to everyone else who supported us by buying a hamburger or sausage in a roll.

Or as we were jokingly saying Kitten burger or KittenTail in a roll ( he he )

This week-end we are doing a sausage sizzle at the Mt Gravatt Soccer club for the seniors home game, So come say Hi. We will be running them every home game which is every second or so weeks. Pomona Hotel

We would just like to say a big thank-you to Jimmy and Jan ( Joys brother )for letting us stay at the hotel while we held our raffles. Lovely little town full of great people, we had a great time up there.

Helen and Bob entertained us on the piano. Bob also taught Tenalie ( Joys granddaughter ) how to play chopsticks.

Time out to have some lunch and have a chat.

We all took turns is colouring in with little Hailey ( Joys granddaughter). We think Bob did the best job.

Qld REDS at Suncorp Stadium

Let me just say we have never been to suncorp stadium before (except for helen who was lucky enough to see Robby Williams in concert) and i must say it was fun, the atmosphere was Great.
I would just like to say a big thank-you to my friend Jay who came along with us and helped out.
We don't know how much we made yet but hopefully we did alright. We make $1 from every program. There was 3 other people from another team and they were on the opposite gate.
We didn't stay and watch the game but the reds were winning when we left, whether they won or not i don't know.........

We will be drawing the Easter raffle on thursday, so good luck and i hope the winners enjoy the prizes.
We also have some chocolate bars and they are just $2 each so make sure you grab some.

Just an update on what we are doing.
This weekend Michelle, Helen and Karen will be at Suncorp Stadium selling programs for the Qld Reds. Every program we sell Reds are donating $1 to the variety club. So if your going out to the game come say hello .

Courierkitten meeting up at Michelle's place today. Checked out our Valiant, she's a beauty. Had abit of a photo shoot. The 2 boys Will and Dimo talked cars while us kitten's talked fundraising and what is coming up in the next couple of months. This month is selling Raffle tickets for family pass to seaworld and easter eggs. Drawn 20th just in time for easter. We will also be up at Pomona Hotel ( passed nosa ) on easter weekend selling raffle tickets.

Then April is off to the shopping centres selling tickets for the 4 night holiday at seaworld.

Good on ya girls. Michelle and Joy collected $1590.00 shakin there tins out at Qld raceway last thursday. It was a gold coin entry and they were only there for a few hours, So good on ya girls that was a great collection. There was 2 others guys there who were collecting but they dont have a car this year and gave us there tins, so thanks guys for doing that. It helped make our total $1590.00. wow thats a lot of coins. And thanks to michelle who had to count it, bag it and take it to the bank.

Then after they had finished collecting all those coins they got to go down to watch abit of action on the track.

Well now back to some more fundraising we are now selling raffle tickets for our easter draw.

We have had a lot of good feed back on the cookie dough. Lots of people have been busy baking there cookies and are saying how easy they are and how nice they taste. And have you tried just eating the uncooked dough, very nice, over in america they have cookie dough and ice-cream ( suppose to be very nice ). So because we have had a great response to them we will be doing it again in couple of months time, so you can then stock up on them. So happy baking everyone....

Wow a lovely surprise in my letterbox today was 2 adult and 2 childrens tickets to seaworld. I contacted a few businesses via emails and after not hearing from them i asumed they all probably just thought it was junk emails and deleted them. Well seaworld didnt and sent me the tickets so now we can raffle them of.
And then tonite when i checked my emails was excited to see webster and wood are going to be sending me some vouchers aswell. This is great news. Thank-you to seaworld and webster and wood.

Wow we got another car.
Why - because this one is all set up ready to go, it was used on a few bashes and they were selling it on ebay. and guess what its a valliant. I love valiants i have had a few of them and they are a great car and this one will be a beauty. ( post some pictures soon)
Its so exciting we are now closer to getting car registered and will be able to drive it to promote the variety bash. Will ( michelles partner) will still has to do some mechanicals on the car and will need a good tidy up. But it will be some much less work for everyone now.

And we picked up the cookie dough today and have delivered it to most of you that bought it just a few more tomorrow. That was agreat effort and we once again thank all of you who helped out. So go make some cookies everyone.

Well here she is our HZ Holden wagon, thanks to michelles partner Will forgetting this car for us. Will is going to do the mechanicals on the car it came with V8 but Will is putting a 202 in it for us (little bit cheaper on fuel ) And my partner Dimo will be painting it. not sure of colour yet as our sponsor has an imput, but we would like to keep to our theme as kittens. maybe orange and black stripes or white and black stripes. so we will have to wait to see who our sponsors are.

Well first fundraiser for the year is the cookie dough. If you haven't seen this dough before its great stuff , you just spoon it out onto tray then place in oven. Its that simple. Tastes great uncooked to. Sells for $13 a tub and comes in 6 flavours.

Hi my name is karen ( 3rd one along) and these are my friends/work colleges Michelle, Joy, Me and Helen and we are entrants in the xxxx variety bash 2008, car number 450.

What is the xxxx variety bash you ask!!!!!

The 2008 XXXX Gold Variety Bash will commence in Toowoomba on the Darling Downs and trek through remote townships of the outback QLD and NSW and most iconic stops in between, Heading down to Mt Panorama at Bathurst for the V8 supercars.
Starting 3 to 12 October 2008.

This event requires a tremendous amount of commitment from participants who not only spend time preparing their vehicle for this great journey of 3500 klm but also commit to raise a minium of $7000 in donations for the Variety QLD Incorporated as well as participants provinsions levy to expenses such as food, fuel, selected marketing materials etc..

So we have a car will post a picture soon. The car is a hz holden ( as the car has to be 20yrs old ) But at the moment our most important thing is to start raising money. We need a major sponsor who can help us out, ( so if you know of anyone you can email me)

The major sponsor has a say in what the car can look like.

So now that christmas is over and the new year is going its time to get into some fund raising. we have a few ideas tell you more about them soon.
